Do you know the difference between “an accident blackspot” (“Punto Negro”) and “a dangerous stretch of road”?

An accident blackspot is a stretch of road in which 3 or more accidents involving victims occur within a calendar year, within 100 metres of each other.

A dangerous stretch of road (Tramo de concentración de accidentes or “TCA” in Spanish) is a stretch of road which has a significantly higher than average number accidents when compared to similar stretches of road.

The DGT used road signs to warn drivers that they are approaching a stretch of road where accidents are known to occur, in order to avoid further accidents.
