Officers from the Catalan Police have arrested two men aged 28 and 30, residents of Tarragona and Alicante, suspected of committing roadside robberies on the AP-7 motorway by posing as police officers.

At the time of their arrest the men had 8,000 euro in cash in their possession which the officers believe they had taken from tourists in a recent robbery which occurred at around 20:00 on Thursday when the victims reported being forced by a vehicle masquerading as a police car to stop on the hard shoulder in the Tarragona area.

The victims report that they believed that they had been stopped by a police patrol who told them that they were looking for drugs. During the search of the vehicle they fake police took 8,000 euro and 6,000 dirhams in cash, as well as the key to the vehicle to prevent the victims escaping.

Shortly afterwards, a patrol from the Mossos d’Esquadra managed to locate and stop a suspect vehicle which matched the description of the one involved in the robbery, carrying the two people matching the description given by the victims and carrying cash of a quantity similar to that which was taken.

The suspects were presented to the courts and subsequently released facing charges.
