Guardia Civil officers saved the life of a two-year-old child on Wednesday, after he had been knocked down near the Murcia town of Cieza.

A patrol was alerted to the incident by a man who came out of a driveway to a farm adjoining the road and asked them to help, because he had apparently inadvertently run over his Nephew, a young child, in the farm, rendering the boy unconscious.

A young woman then appeared, in an apparent state of distress, carrying a child in her arms who was bleeding through several areas of his body and had lost consciousness.

Due to the seriousness of the situation and the proximity to the hospital of La Vega Lorenzo Guirao de Cieza, the officers decided to immediately take the child to hospital in their vehicle, along with the woman, now identified as the mother.

During the journey the child stopped breathing, so, after checking the vital signs of the child, on of the officers began cardio-respiratory resuscitation. Shortly afterwards, the child started crying and regained consciousness minutes before arriving at the hospital.

The child received further emergency care at the hospital in Cieza, before later being transferred to the University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca of Murcia, where he was put under observation.
