Around fifteen people were evacuated from their homes in Torrevieja on Sunday after fears for their safety were raised following a forest fire in the naturalpark of Lagunas de la Mata.

The fire started at around 15:45 near the junction of Miguel de Unamuno and Pablo Neruda and resulted in 1,500 square metres of natural parkland being destroyed.

Eight fire tenders attended the incident, as well as medical staff who assisted in the evacuation, although the fire was successfully controlled around an hour after the fight begun.
