The councillor for fiestas in Torrevieja, Domingo Pérez, accompanied by the vice president of the Cultural Carnival Association of Torrevieja, César Berná, and the creator of the 2019 poster, Ana Cutillas, presented the provisional Carnival 2019 program in a press conference, announcing the start date on 2 February, presentation of Queens between dawn on March 2 and the early hours of March 3, when the infamous night parade will take place.
The councillor began the conference by congratulating the new leadership of Carnival 2019 and talked about the collaboration of the council with the association. “The carnival is one of the most important and admired festivities in the city of Torrevieja. Last year, a member of the jury told me ‘keep in mind that you have a jewel in your hands’. I’m going to listen to him. From the council, we will do everything possible to make Carnival 2019 even better than the previous one,” he said.
César Berna explained that a new website dedicated to the Carnival 2019 festivities has been created. “The page is a window to the world of the Carnival of Torrevieja. An opportunity to be known,” he said, specifying some of its contents such as the programming schedule, registration instructions and the rules of the contests.
The vice president has also highlighted the most important acts of the new programming. The Carnival parties will begin on February 2 with the proclamation and the presentation of the Queens in the International Auditorium of Torrevieja at 21:00. They will continue on Saturday, February 9, with the National Drag Queen Contest. Bern has explained that, “this year women will be able to participate in the contest responding to the many requests of torrevejenses who have asked that they can do so,” he said.
The carnivals will continue with the National Chirigotas Contest on Saturday, February 16 in the Auditorium. The next day, Sunday February 17, the III edition of the Carnavalera Day will take place. On Sunday, February 24, there will be the Grand Parade of the 2019 Carnival Contest, a tour from the Plaza de María Asunción to calle Clemente Gosálvez. In addition, two specific activities will be organised, such as the Carnival Party for the Elderly People on February 27, and the Children’s Parade “El Carnaval de los Coles” on Friday, March 1.
On Saturday March 2 there will be a great parade from the Plaza de María Asunción to calle Clemente Gosálvez and the great carnival night parade 2019.
During the press conference, the artist Ana Cutillas, who designed the poster for this year, was grateful to be a participant in the Carnival. “The 2019 Carnival poster is related to the one from the previous year. It is painted in acrylic. For me it was a challenge to design it, especially because it is for the carnival parties in which I have always participated a lot,” she concluded.
By the way, on the subject of Halloween, the vice president of the Carnival association added that there will be a makeup contest that will be rewarded with cash prizes this year.
