Torrevieja will be celebrating International Book Day tomorrow, Tuesday 23 April, with a number of cultural activities held in the patio of the Carmen Jalón Municipal Library from 6pm.

The event has been organised by the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Municipal Library and will begin with a welcome speech by Torrevieja’s councillor for Culture and the 2018 Library’s Guest of Honour, Conchita Moreno.

Visitors will then be treated to a musical performance by Francisco J. Garres Pérez and Nataliya Khomyak, professors at the Francisco Casanovas de Torrevieja Professional Music Conservatory, and the celebrations will end with a theatre performance by La Cueva de Melpómene, who will act out a chapter from Don Quijote.

International Book Day is celebrated across the globe and is held in honour of all writers and books. It has been celebrated in Spain since 1926, but in 1930 it was decided to commemorate this day on 23 April, which coincides with the deaths of Cervantes and William Shakespeare, two of the world¡s greatest writers in history.
