School Damage Inspected Following Easter Storms

Torrevieja´s councillor for Education, José Hurtado, accompanied by technicians from the Department of Works and Services, visited the CEIP Romualdo Ballester school in order to assess damage caused by the heavy rain over the Easter weekend.

The team checked the worst affected areas and, according to their initial assessment, are due to faulty performance by the company that was awarded maintenance of schools, rather than the reported worst rain in over 70 years being to blame.

However, Hurtado did say that the council are awaiting official reports from the architect at the Department of Works and Services and, once it is complete, will consider action against the company responsible for the maintenance.

The mayor of the city, José Manuel Dolón, reported that the rain this weekend had been the worst in 73 years, with over 200 litres per square metre falling in some areas, resulting in severe flooding, as seen in the video below.
