A new Tourist Office was opened on Monday 23rd December in Orihuela City my the mayor , Monserrate Guillen, and the Councillor for Tourism, Rosa Martinez .
They were accompanied by the Valencia Deputy for Provincial Tourism, Joaquín Albaladejo.
The Office is located in Plaza de la Soledad and according to Martinez, given the suitability of the location and it’s visibility, it will become the meeting point and the beginning of all city tourist routes
The office houses information about all the tourist attractions, both in the municipality and the surrounding areas, and boasts that it will be able to meet the demands of every tourist. The office will also offer fixed schedule guided tours at 11:30 and 17:00 hours each day. It also has a new one souvenir shop.
A picture painted by Eva Hernandez Miguel Ruiz is prominently displayed in the office with the title “Orihuela, your people and mine.”
The building also features a work area and a meeting room because, as the mayor said, it is an active center and must be prepared to meet whatever demand arises.
Rosa Martinez said that much work has been carried out in the Department to improve the region’s tourism which has been ‘asleep and dormant for decades’.
The first steps were to improve the road to the coast which had not been maintained since 1995, make a catalogue of the beaches , the most recognized in Spain per kilometer of coastline, and promote the city of Orihuela on external social networks and at airports and train stations.
For the first time the cultural and theatrical services are being offered in Spanish and English,

The Department for Urbanism has launched a special cleaning service to mark the Christmas holiday period. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the mayor of, Monserrate Guillen, who said that the additions service would also include street steam cleaning to remove ingrained dirt and odours . This service will begin in the city centre and then move out into the remainder of the central areas.
Guillen also appealed for the cooperation of citizens in keeping the city clean and maintaining the beauty of Orihuela . He said that citizens should respect the refuse collection service schedules and only put out their refuse prior to the arrival of the cleaning services. They should not simply deposit their garbage in plastic bags by the side of the refuse bins as these are often disturbed with the result that the rubbish is then strewn across the streets which only gives the impression of a city in which nobody cares.
In addition, the department will be putting municipal posters on lampposts and walls warning residents that it is illegal to drop litter, to paste posters or to deface public spaces. Anyone defying these instructions is liable to face prosecution.
Similarly, he has appealed to pet owners to pick up the droppings after their dogs. Once again he reminded everyone of the ordinance on the owners of animals that soil in the street. Indeed in many areas there are litter bins where pet owners can deposit their animal waste.
He then reminded those residents who still use open fires, fireplaces or braziers that they need to ensure that the coals are fully extinguished prior to being placed in any waste bin as ten containers have already been destroyed by burning so far this year.
“All these measures are extremely important because they help us to have a more pleasant city,” he said.
