Hoteliers and restaurateurs in the province said they felt "very positive" after the first major holiday period of the year, in which hotel occupancy had actually touched 100% in Benidorm.
Hosbec president, Toni Mayor, said that in many other areas the occupation rate was up to 98% and it had been a ‘spectacular week' for restaurants, cafes and many other hospitality-related businesses, ‘the best Easter in the last 10 years bringing over 40 million euros into the local economy.'
Of the total expenditure, 55-60 percent was in the coastal province of Alicante, which, according to the Minister of Economy, Industry, Tourism and Employment, Maximo Buch, reached an average occupancy of 85 percent, who has expressed "satisfaction" with the results achieved in the number of travelers and overnight stays, an increase of almost a five percent over the same period last year.
The Minister said that Easter "is often a barometer of the upcoming summer season, for which we now have high expectations in terms of travelers, overnight stays and tourist spending."
He also praised "the positive impact the occupancy rate has had on employment generation, which will help consolidate the good results already achieved in the province during the first two months of the year, with over 58,500 employed in the tourism industry, 7% more than the same period last year. "
Buch made the remarks during his visit to the Escuela de Hostelería de Elche, launched by the local council last March. He praised the school saying that the initiative "is an example of how such training can help create job opportunities, placing them within the leading tourism activities that create employment."

Actors Billie Anthony'Gaddess and Julie Kay, who are currently putting the Finishing touches to the First ever Crowd Funded feature Film to be made on the Costablanca, "The Cucaracha Club" recently teamed up with two big names from an Irish TV Soap, called Ros na Run.
A Gallic speaking show that has been running for many years now. Robbie Gallagher and Mike Kelly, have been involved for many years as actors on TV and have many movie credits to their names.
Gangs of New York, Joan of Ark, Dark Age, Brush Strokes, among the film credits and Benidorm, Ros na Run (TG4), Raisai na Gaillime(TG4) and the TG4 detective series, Corp Agus Anam, in the TV credits.
Plans are afoot for the second Cucaracha Club story with the option of making a 6 to 8 part TV Drama of the plot line. The genial Irish men, may find themselves as integral members of the forthcoming cast to play bad boys opposite Julie and Billie.
It is hoped that the International cast will be extended to more big named actors as locations from around Europe and the USA will be sought to complete a much more ambitious feature length film.
In the mean time it is also hoped that Robbie may join up with a few members of the Film cast in the next ADHOC production later this year, putting his directors hat on with a very famous stage play. Tom Watt has been invited to return in his role with an ambitious plot line and special effects.
Music for the next production is already being composed to keep with the ideal of having a low budget production with a full original music score. The current production has this in place and it is very unusual to have a full music score, let alone such a high quality amount of music available.
The Theme song sung by Chloe Leigh called "The Cucaracha Club" and currently being requested on local radio and international stations, has had well over 3000 hit on Youtube thus far.
