Following on from their huge success in the European National Championships, the Spanish Bowls Squad headed added off to Cyprus on the 18 April to take part in the Cyprus 4 Nations Championships. The tournament itself started on 21 and finished on 24th.

Alongside Spain, were strong teams from Israel, Jersey and of course Cyprus.

The gents team were peter Bonsor, Jackie Breslin (player manager), Steve Pearson, Steve Cantley and Graham Cathcart.

The ladies team were Sheri Fletcher, Jan Dando, Lisa Bonsor, Debbie Colquhoun Yvonne Briden.

After 4 days of stiff competition the team finished triumphant by 4 points from the Israeli team, earning the Spanish team the tournament team trophy and of course a medal for each of the team.

As usual though the ladies were not happy just to settle with one medal. Oh no, they had also to win the ladies team competition, dropping only two points during the whole tournament.

John Muldoon, national Director, who also travelled with the Squad was delighted with the result. "This is the first ever Gold medal Spain has ever won in a team event. I am absolutely delighted. It is great to see the hard work the back room staff and the players have put in the past 4 years Coming to fruition.

We continue to go from strength to strength and are now a team to be reckoned with in the international bowls scene."
