More than 2000 people turned out at the Torrevieja Sports City last Tuesday to see the manager of the Spanish National Football team, Vicente del Bosque, pay tribute to his great friend and former colleague, Joaquin Garcia “Nito”, for over 40 years loyal service as a Real Madrid scout.

The event, which began with the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the visit to Torrevieja of the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Nations Cup Winners, was also attended by the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, and a number of his Torrevieja Councillors.

In addressing the crown del Bosque expressed his gratitude to the people of Torrevieja for turning out in great numbers to share in this tribute to his great friend Nito, which highlighted his selfless and unselfish work for over 40 years as a scout and supporter of Real Madrid CF .

He said that Nito had been important as a scout for Spanish football in general and for Real Madrid in particular, and that he had also been a great supporter in the development of the sport in Torrevieja particularly of the Municipal School which promoted football in the city at grassroots level.

Del Bosque then went on to present Nito with the Gold and Diamond Insignia of Real Madrid after which the mayor presented the former player with a commemorative plaque.

In his playing career Nito has represented Elche, Murcia, Torrevieja and Crevillente and for several decades was closely regarded by the legendary Real Madrid president Santiago Bernabéu. In his time as a Real Madrid scout he discovered such talent as Chendo , Macanás , Juanfran Soler, Raul Bravo, Javi Garcia Camach, Casimiro Torres, Almagro and many others.
