TORREVIEJA BASED LITHUANIAN DRUG GANG ARRESTED

Officers from the Guardia Civil have arrested 17 people suspected of being members of a Lithuanian gang who smuggled drugs into Spain hidden in false bottoms of seemingly legitimate cargo.

Operation “Ajedrea” began in August of 2013, when the Guardia Civil received information about a group of Lithuanian nationals, who were believed to be resident in Torrevieja, engaged in international narcotics trafficking and money laundering.

During the investigation it was confirmed that the main leaders of the network were a Lithuanian couple, a man and a woman, and were residents of Torrevieja, from where they ran the operation.

The female of the couple was apparently involved in controlling the import and distribution, whereas the male would manage the sales and onward delivery.

The operation and investigation was carried out across Alicante, Murcia, San Javier, San Pedro de Pinatar, El Mirador, Los Sáez, Ciudad Real and Albacete, resulting in 17 people being arrested, 19 vehicles, guns, ammunition and other artifacts related to the case being seized during the seven house searches, one in Solana in Ciudad Real, two in Los Alcázares, one in Orihuela, and three in Torrevieja.
