ELECTROMAR TO RETURN IN 2015

With an anticipated audience of 15,000 people the first year of 2012, 20,000 people in 2013 and 10,000 people in 2014, the reality being 8,000 partygoers visiting this year, the organisers of the Electromar music festival in Torrevieja have already announced that they will return next year.

Praised as being a tourist attraction, many residents are questioning the value that the attendees bring, spending little in the city as their drinks are consumed at the venue, the partygoers have no interest in visiting shops or restaurants, and there are no requirements for hotels as the party runs right through the night.

Let alone the noise and inconvenience the residents have to endure, roadblocks whilst the security services search for drugs and alcohol, the risk to public safety that drunk drivers create that the law enforcers try to prevent.

Quite why Torrevieja is the chosen location for an event that doesn´t meet the usual characteristics of the intended image of the event remains to be seen, when the reality is nothing more than streets flooded with litter and rubbish and no immediate intention to clean up the day after, only showing Torrevieja in the poorest light.

However, there are no doubt some beneficiaries from the arrangement, as has been proven in previous years, but we shall have to wait for the accounts to be scrutinised this year to see exactly who does benefit from a party better suited to Ibiza or even Benidorm, rather than a town which prides itself on a history of classical musical performances.
