This weekend marks the long anticipated return operation on the roads of Spain, with 1,850,000 journeys anticipated on the roads of the Valencia region alone. This is some 19% of the 4.2 million vehicle movements in the country.

As many domestic tourists finish their summer holidays and head back to their inland homes, their will be an anticipated 850,000 movements in the province of Valencia, 700,000 in Alicante and the remaining 300,000 in Castellón.

Likely to be the busiest times, and therefore to be avoided, are between 16:00 and 21:00 on Friday, and between 08:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 21:00 on Sunday, although the entire weekend will be busy.

For coastal residents this operation is the least likely to cause too many delays however, as the concentrations will be heading to major cities inland, but the major hotspots will be the A-70 motorway, the N-332 around Altea, El Altet to Sata Pola and Torrevieja to the Orihuela Costa.

As always, to ensure the safest flow of traffic, the “full allocation” of human resources will be deployed, with the Guardia Civil traffic department out in force, some showing off their newly commissioned Jeep vehicles, supported by traffic management and maintenance staff all major road works will be suspended, as well as restrictions on the movements of heavy and dangerous goods.

The advice from the DGT is to try to avoid the busiest times, but if you do have to go out and become part of the traffic, allow extra time for your journey, take your time and comply with the law at all times.
