COUNCILS REMINDED ABOUT ACCOUNT SUBMISSION

The Audit Office has sent a request to 55 municipalities, 21 associations and 21 consortia urging them to submit their accounts.

The external control body, responsible for monitoring the regional and local public sector, has sent the reminders indicating that the deadline of the 31st of October has expired and they must complete their legal requirement to submit their accounts.

Of the 55 municipalities that have not submitted their accounts, 19 are in Alicante, namely Orihuela, Benasau, Beniarrés, Benigembla, Cocentaina, Crevillent, El Campello, Jacarilla, La Torre de les Maçanes, Llíber, Monforte del Cid, Monòver, Rafal, San Fulgencio, Sant Joan d’Alacant, Sana Pola, Senija, Vall de Gallinera and Vall d’Ebo.

The remaining are divided between the other two provinces with 15 in Castellón and 21 in Valencia. In total, 10% of the municipal councils have failed to submit their accounts, double the usual annual figure of 5%.

The Audit Office, in its “commitment to transparency of local sector” has contacted all of the offending municipal councils, and the associations, to remind their legal accountability.
