FIRE FIGHTERS TO SHARE COVERAGE

The City of Alicante and the Provincial Government have signed a collaboration agreement in which each of their fire and rescue services will assist in attending incidents across the borders of their areas of responsibility.

As such, the Alicante based Servicio de Prevención, Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento, or SPEIS, will attend incidents at Arenales del Sol, El Altet, Torrellano, Mutxamel, Hospital de San Juan, Muchavista y El Campello, the road tunnel on the A-70 at San Juan, and Alicante-Elche airport, should they be closer and able to provide a faster response.

Meanwhile, the areas of Pla de Vallonga, Atalayas, El Rebolledo, Verdegás, Alcoraya, Moralet, La Cañada, Barrio Granada, Garrachico and Rabasa will also now fall under the same terms of the shared agreement.

However, the socialist group have been critical of the agreement, saying that it is motivated by the lack of fire fighters employed to cover the south of the SPEIS area, and the transfer of responsibility at the fire station of San Juan.
