People Traffickers Arrested

Officers from the National Police have arrested 80 people this week, all linked to a network of illegal trafficking of citizens of Chinese origin.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with the British Embassy and Immigration Officials from the British Consulate in Barcelona.

One of those arrested is the suspected head of the operation, with the gang believed to charge an average of 20,000 euro for each person being trafficked, seriously threatening them or their families if they failed to meet that amount.

The main destination countries for the victims were the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and the United States were organised transfers were arranged from Barcelona and other towns of the same province, using a network of travel agencies which were also mainly run for Chinese citizens.
