1,688 Deaths on the Roads

The Spanish government has released the latest road fatality statistics, revealing that in 2015, a total of 1,688 people have been recorded as losing their lives on the roads of Spain, the same number as in 2014. However, there were 9,503 people seriously injured, which has dropped slightly from the 9,574 in 2015.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Luis Aguilera, revealed the figures at a road safety and sustainability conference, and covers the main road network throughout the country, except Catalonia and the Basque Country.

In view of these results, Luis Aguilera has expressed the need to continue working with municipalities in general and with the police and those responsible for traffic Basque Country and Catalonia to ensure that the reduction in casualties occurs across all regions.
