The prosecutor is calling for an 18-month prison sentence for a driver caught doing 103 kilometres per hour in a section of road where the maximum permitted speed was 50 kilometres per hour.

Having been stopped for the offence of speeding, the driver also tested positive for having consumed alcohol and drugs.

The hearing is set for Thursday of this week following the incident in December, 2014, on the CV-1 (Los Campos-Trasona) road in Corvera. The vehicle was observed being driven at high speed and recklessly, hitting the crash barrier at one point.

As a result of that collision, the passenger in the vehicle suffered injuries and so the charge sheet includes a crime against road safety causing reckless injury, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and speeding.

IN addition to the prison sentence, the prosecutor has also requested the disqualification from driving for a period of 4 years.
