The 2019 Tour of Spain cycle race, La Vuelta, will start a time trial at the Salinas in Torrevieja, and will have three stages in the province of Alicante, according to an announcement by the spokesperson for the organisers, Javier Guillén.

“The province of Alicante is a cyclist’s paradise, with sea, mountains, harbours and plains and a climate that fits perfectly with the practice of cycling,”, Guillén said in his address at a presentation on Friday in Málaga, on the Costa del Sol.

It is not just sporting enthusiasts who are said to benefit from the race, the economic impact on the tour visiting Alicante is estimated to be around 3 million euro, with around 250,000 euro per night spent accommodating and serving the teams as they stay in the various locations around the province.

There is a secondary income too, as the race is broadcast on Spanish national and international television, with 365 million viewers worldwide, not forgetting the impact on social media with the official website generating 4.4 million visitors, and so the areas the race visits are showcased on one of the biggest platforms available where the scenery and benefits of the area are represented, thus generating, according to the organisers, interest for tourism.
