Free Winter Beach Activities

Torrevieja’s councillor for Employment, Víctor Ferrández, held a press conference this week, in which he explained a series of free activities taking place on the beaches during the winter months.

The reason why it was the employment councillor presenting these activities, rather than sports or tourism, is that these event are also an opportunity for local people to secure work, as they are all run by a a group who are involved in an employment workshop, where they are learning the skills and qualifications to point them on to a new career in the tourism sector.

The councillor explained that the project will provide numerous benefits to those interested in taking part. “It is an offer of sports and leisure activities that promotes health, the enjoyment of the outdoors, which takes advantage of the natural resources of the municipality, in this case the beaches, and encourages socialisation,” he said. In addition, it encourages healthy life habits and promotes teamwork, he explained.

This initiative will be developed during the months of October, November and December, at Playa de los Náufragos. With its Blue Flag and ISO quality certificate, both very important factors for tourism, it is the ideal location for the activities. “It is wide, easily accessible and is equipped with sports elements,” said the councillor.

Registration is completely free and you can even sign up for more than one activity. This can be done at either the ADL or in the main tourist office in the town centre. The activities are open to anyone over the age of 18, but there is a planned limit of 750 people in total, so early registration is advised, as always.

The activities will be offered for each month during two days a week, Monday and Wednesday (with the exception of holidays), from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. divided into two sessions: from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. the first and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. the second.

So, what’s on offer? In October there will be salsa from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. and yoga from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. In November, pilates in the first shift and Zumba in the second shift, and in December, functional training and maintenance gymnastics, respectively. The councillor has clarified what functional training consists of: “machine-less exercises that promotes strength and endurance to perform daily load activities or different postures in a correct manner and without harming the body.”
