Orihuela to Close Beaches on Christmas Day

If you’re thinking of popping along to the annual Christmas Day gathering on the beach at La Zenia, think again, as Orihuela town hall has made the decision to close all the beaches of the municipality on Christmas day in the interest of safety, amid rising Covid infections.

The councillor for citizen security and beaches, Antonio Sánchez, says that “given the situation in which we find ourselves due to the pandemic and with the cases of positives on the rise, we must exercise extreme precautions and avoid situations that have negative effects,” whilst acknowledging the decision as regrettable, but responsibility forces the action.

This decision was adopted after a meeting chaired by Mayor Emilio Bascuñana and attended by councillors from different areas of the local government and will mean that the Christmas Day gathering frequented by the British population at La Zenia will have to be cancelled this year.
