Within the framework of the National Plan for the fight against the cultivation and trafficking of narcotic drugs, the Guardia Civil arrested two brothers and is investigating a third man who allegedly sold drugs from a greengrocers shop in Torrevieja, a substance that was in boxes of products displayed in an establishment that was apparently closed to the public, but where there was a large movement of people.

As reported by the armed institute in a statement, the two detainees are two residents of the town, 40 and 46 years old and Spanish nationality, while the person under investigation is a 67-year-old man. Those arrested have been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court number 1 of Torrevieja, which has ordered his admission to prison and precautionary measures for the person under investigation.

Following a tip off from a member of the public about a “strange deal” in a local establishment, the Guardia Civil began an investigation, and they verified the existence of a group allegedly dedicated to drug trafficking.

The investigators established a tight control of the activity in the establishment, a greengrocer, run by two brothers and which was apparently closed to the general public, but there was a “constant movement” of customers. The employees “opened and closed the establishment without an apparent cause, and the clients entered and left without shopping bags,” according to the Guardia Civil.

The agents made some initial identifications and confirmed that, upon leaving the premises, the clients were allegedly carrying narcotic substances. Transactions were carried out inside the premises by one of the brothers, the youngest of them, while the eldest appeared and disappeared frequently from the establishment. The investigators verified that he was the alleged leader of the gang.

Continuing with the investigation, the agents found out that this person, in addition to serving the greengrocer, frequented various gambling halls in the town, in which they also found the sale of drugs.

The Guardia Civil has also been able to verify the involvement of a third person, a Spanish man, also a resident of the town, who was allegedly in charge of surveillance of the exterior of the greengrocer’s and of attracting customers in the gambling halls.

The investigators, supported by the Torrevieja Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) and the canine handler of the Alicante Command with the drug detector dog, carried out the exploitation phase of the operation, in which they carried out the searches and made the arrests of the suspects, who are accused of the crimes of belonging to a criminal group, against public health for drug trafficking and smuggling.
