Groceries

If you are looking to buy groceries in Torrevieja, there are lots of options available. There are a number of smaller supermarkets and shops in the centre, as we mentioned, but if you are looking to get the “big shop”, one option is Carrefour, the French supermarket chain.

In Torrevieja there is a large Carrefour supermarket, which is actually located next to the Habaneras shopping centre, and also has some smaller shops inside the centre, such as an optician, sweet shop, key cutting service, clothes, and mobile phone accessory store, as well as a lottery outlet, and others.

Carrefour Torrevieja is also pet friendly, and of course sells lots of products for pets.

The Carrefour chain has their own website, but the local Carrefour in Torrevieja also has a website dedicated to themselves, which is https://www.cc-carrefour-torrevieja.com/

A note of caution though, the store can sometimes be very busy and although they have a queueing system which leads everyone to the next available checkout, they also have self-service tills, but only 4 of them, and of those, only 2 can be used for cash payments, so checkout queues are common. You also need to watch some of the prices, as although many items are cheaper in the store, there are some that are often over-inflated, especially when they are part of offers.

There are other large grocery stores available too, although Carrefour is the biggest. Comsum, Mercadona, Lidl and Aldi all have stores in Torrevieja, as do some of the smaller chains such as Hiperber and Mas y Mas.

Finally, on the subject of groceries, if you are crazing for the taste of home, Overseas British Supermarkets also have a store in Torrevieja, which stocks a lot of British favourites, including frozen products from Iceland, and a fairly decent vegetarian range too. Compared to the UK the prices can be a little high, but we have to forgive them a little as they do import the products into Spain which is costly, and has increased since Brexit.

There is also another market which is worth visiting, although you can´t get fresh produce at this one, but it is commonly known as the “Hippy market”. It is open every day and is located near the port and the fun fair in Torrevieja. Although it has undergone a major transformation from the roots of the market many years ago, there is still a wide range of products for sale.
