The process of securing a contractor to provide beach bar son the Orihuela Costa is still ongoing, although not without possible further complications.
Despite the town hall believing that they have resolved all of the outstanding issues, ensuring that the contract is correct, awarded to a suitably audited company and with the provision of receiving the outstanding debts, the company set to take on the work is yet to reply to the formal proposals.
As the procedure is time based, this could well lead to a summer without beach bars on the Orihuela Costa, which could also prove welcoming to those businesses near to the beaches which saw an improvement in trade over the Easter period.
The fact that Orihuela has been awarded more Blue Flags than might have been expected could well prove testament to the quality and standards being implemented, but the fear that a lack of chiringuitos might cause problems for future years have been dismissed, with the councillor for the coast, Martina Scheurer, confirming that having bars on the beach is not a requirement of the Blue Flag or quality awards.
