Throughout the year, Spain celebrates national, regional and local holidays. National holidays are called Red Days, and are effectively the same as Bank Holidays in the UK. There are also regional holidays, which in the case of Torrevieja are those celebrated in Communidad Valenciana, and finally, most towns also celebrate local holidays. So, let’s look at the holidays in Torrevieja.
The standard calendar for holidays in Torrevieja is:
1 January, New Year’s Day / Año Nuevo
6 January, Epiphany / Epifanía del Señor
19 March, San Jose, also Spanish father’s day
Holy Thursday, regional holiday in Valencia
Good Friday
Easter Monday, celebrated in the Valencia region
25 April, San Vicente Ferrer, local holiday in Torrevieja
24 June, San Juan, when bonfire are held
15 August, Assumption of the Virgin Mary / Asunción de Virgen María
9 October, Day of the Valencia region / Día de la Comunidad Valenciana
12 October, National Holiday of Spain / Fiesta Nacional de España
1 November, Feast of All Saints / Fiesta de Todos los Santos
6 December, Spanish Constitution Day / día de la Constitución
8 December, Immaculate Conception Day / día de la Inmaculada Concepción
25 December, Christmas day
26 December, holiday in Torrevieja for the second day of Christmas
Although there are exceptions these days for some shops, and the service and hospitality sectors, most other businesses will be closed during these holidays. It is always worth checking before you set off on a visit.
The dates sometimes change if the day falls on a weekend, and of course because Easter moves, those dates are not fixed. You can check the official calendar of working days on the Social Security website, by clicking this link, https://www.seg-social.es/wps/portal/wss/internet/CalendarioLaboral/
