Filming for movies, series, documentaries and adverts in Alicante has generated a total of 4,107 overnight stays in four and five star hotels in the city during the first half of the year alone.
The Councillor for Tourism, Ana Poquet, highlighted the positive impact of filming in the city, particularly following the reactivation of the Ciudad de la Luz studios and the signing of the agreement between the regional Tourism Councillor, Marian Cano, and Mayor Luis Barcala.
This figure was primarily achieved thanks to two major international productions, Disney’s Tangled and People of the Book, produced by Good Films. In the case of the Disney film, these stays occurred during its pre-production phase before filming across various locations in the province this August.
According to forecasts from the Alicante Film Office, overnight stay projections for the second half of the year in the city of Alicante are promising. This is due on one hand to the filming of Tangled at the Ciudad de la Luz studios, and on the other hand to the activity generated by the pre-production phase of the upcoming Good Films movie American Paradise ahead of filming in January 2027.
Furthermore, during the months of July, August and September, the city is hosting the filming of two movies: El Paso Verse – The Visionary and And What Next?. Although their impact will not translate into as many hotel stays as the two large international productions, both projects bring other benefits, such as promotional value for the Alicante brand as a tourist destination by displaying its locations on screen, the Alicante Film Office explained.
In the case of the film And What Next?, there is also an impact on human capital development, as it is actively collaborating with the Alicante Film School. This local film and audiovisual training centre was established to train new creators and respond to the growing demand for technicians following the reopening of the Ciudad de la Luz movie studios.
