Benidorm is counting down to the 16th anniversary of Benidorm Pride, one of the most established fixtures on the municipality’s annual calendar. The celebration is expected to attract over 20,000 people, mostly national and international LGBTIQ+ tourists, for a series of scheduled events taking place from 1st to 6th September.
The details were presented by Pride organiser Santos Torres alongside the local councillor for events, Jesús Carrobles. Both invited residents and tourists to take part in what municipal sources describe as one of the finest Pride events in the country.
Torres revealed that Benidorm Pride has officially twinned with Seville Pride. Alongside Barcelona, this partnership helped Benidorm secure membership in InterPride, the European Pride Organisations Association. Torres noted that this marks a major step forward, expressing hope that Benidorm could one day host EuroPride, given its strong infrastructure and accommodation capacity.
Carrobles highlighted the year-on-year growth of the event and praised the work of Torres in securing impressive numbers. He recalled that several years ago, the decision was taken to shift the focus away from being aimed primarily at British tourism, creating a far more multicultural event that has become a benchmark across the Valencian Community. He emphasised that the nearly six days of festivities extend beyond designated venues into the everyday life of the town, providing a massive economic boost for local businesses. Torres agreed, noting that LGBTIQ+ tourism generates significant economic activity due to high spending on leisure and dining.
The schedule begins on 1st and 2nd September with parties scattered across the old town venues. On Thursday 3rd September, the Julio Iglesias Auditorium in L’Aigüera Park will host the Pool Party and Divas Disco event. On Friday, the same auditorium will hold the White Party, followed by an After Party at the venue Rockstar.
The main parade takes place on Saturday 5th September from 16:30, starting at Levante Beach, featuring 18 floats and expected to draw thousands of spectators along its route. The day will wrap up with the Main Stage party at the auditorium, featuring live performances and DJs. The final day, Sunday, will focus on celebrations back in the old town area.
In total, 18 parties are scheduled across the week. High-profile drag performers Kika Lorace and La Prohibida are amongst the headline acts. Torres added that Benidorm locals strongly support the event, noting an inclusive environment free from homophobic harassment.
He also pointed out that demand has been so intense that organisers struggled to find accommodation for some invited artists, highlighting the scale of the event. Beyond the parties, Benidorm Pride will feature a diverse cultural schedule, including exhibitions and book presentations.
Carrobles concluded by noting that while the week carries vital social and political importance, it also serves as a key economic catalyst, allowing Benidorm to compete alongside major cities with million-euro budgets.
