Residents and tourists across the coastal city of Torrevieja experienced a sudden jolt earlier today at 14:40, as a minor seismic tremor, measuring just 1.1 magnitude, struck the Vega Baja del Segura region.
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) confirmed that the tremor was registered beneath the surface and was felt most distinctly in upper-level apartments along the coastline and inland towards the Torrevieja salt lagoons.

While the event was short-lived, it caused a brief stir among locals who reported rattling windowpanes, swaying light fixtures, and startled pets.
“I was having my coffee on the terrace when I felt a low rumble beneath my feet,” said Mateo Ruiz, 54, a lifelong resident of Torrevieja’s city centre. “It lasted no more than three or four seconds. In this region, we know what that sound means right away, but thankfully it passed as quickly as it came.”

Emergency services (112 CV) reported receiving dozens of calls from curious and concerned citizens shortly after the tremor occurred. However, officials quickly issued a statement confirming that no emergency interventions were required, and no structural injuries or property damage have been reported anywhere in the municipality.
