The Guardia Civil has arrested a 51-year-old man accused of robbing a bank at gunpoint in Cocentaina, Alicante, in an incident where he allegedly threatened bank workers with a weapon to make them hand over 1,500€. The court has ordered his provisional detention in prison.
The severity of the events prompted the launch of an investigation, within the framework of the Colatro operation, to clarify the robbery and identify the person responsible, as stated by the armed forces in a statement.
Officers analysed security camera footage and carried out various checks to advance the inquiries. Once the alleged perpetrator was identified, they focused their efforts on finding his whereabouts and locating him.
To achieve this, the guardia civil carried out different search and surveillance operations in various areas, which allowed them to advance the investigation until they found the suspect of the robbery. They located him in a park in Alcoy, where he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of this crime.
Subsequently, a search was carried out at the place where he was hiding. During this action, the officers found a rucksack with various personal effects, among which was a firearm that was apparently simulated.
The Property Team of the Judicial Police Organic Unit of Alicante, together with the Territorial Judicial Police Team of Villena and the Investigation Area of the Principal Post of Ibi, developed the operation.
Once the police procedures were finalised, the detainee was brought before the Instruction Section of the Court of Instance of Alcoy, which has decreed his provisional detention.
