Visitors to some of Benidorm´s most secluded beaches will have to wait until at least next year if they want to purchase refreshments from a beach bar, after the town hall withdrew from the tender process.
Believing there to be no need for the facilities on the main beaches in the town, due to the number of facilities already available, the plan was for the installation of bars and beach services on two of the surrounding cove beaches, the first at cala del Ti Ximo, and neighbouring cala l’Almadrava.
However, the town hall has now cancelled the process, on account of none of the bids submitted “covering expectations”, and because they were “not very attractive in terms of design and aesthetics”.
A representative from the town hall said that none of the tenders “offered anything unique”, and they were all “the same as what already exists in other towns, when what we wanted was to put even differentiation in value our beaches”.
In addition to providing a bar facility, the contract also required for facilities such as sun beds and parasols, and was to be awarded for a period of 4 years. The town hall intends to try again for the next summer season, with more details of their specific requirements being added to the tender terms.
