The regional Championship for Radio Controlled Cars was held in Redovan last weekend attracting competitors from all over Valencia, the Costa Blanca and Murcia areas.
This is the first time they have been held in the town having been moved to the industrial area of San Carlos from their previous venue of Palmeral de Orihuela. The event was organized by the club president Antonio Baldó and winners will now progress to the national finals.
The sport is extremely popular in the district of Vega Baja, and the club has members in almost all locations. The meeting was attended by 66 enthusiasts whose hobby it is to build and pilot these radio cars competitively.
According to the organizers this is an expensive sport which most people have to meet the cost of themselves.
There are a few, however, who excel in the necessary skills, who manage to get sponsorship from private companies and only they are usually able to afford the expense of competing in European competitions.
Two such individuals are the brothers Brian and Oscar Baldó, sons of the club President, who spent last week in Germany and now move on Italy where they will be holding workshops on the sport. The pair currently occupy 2nd and 4th rankings on the national circuit.
Such was the success of the championship that
He region has been selected to organize the 2016 European Championships which Antonio Baldó says is ‘a great honour for people of redovan’.
