Two teams from Madrid, one from Murcia and one from Huddersfield in the UK spent the day playing netball against Rojales on Saturday, 4 October.
Rojales started the day playing some good netball beating the UK team 13-12 followed by wins against Madrid B and Murcia (in which their newest recruit Angela truimphed).
Their final game was to be the tournament decider against the big guns, Madrid A. Rojales had beaten them on their previous meeting in June so Madrid were really up for revenge.
Rojales’ centre court of Donna, Tracy and Ronnie started well getting the ball into their shooters, Sam and Carly, who were under extreme pressure from a strong Madrid defence to convert their shots. At the other end of the court Rojales’ defence of Claire and Sophie were making life very difficult for the Madrid shooters by breaking down their rhythm of play. At half time the score was 6-4 to Madrid and still all to play for.
Rojales started the second half strongly and managed to pull back the deficit to even the score until the final minutes when a couple of stray passes enabled Madrid to counterattack and finish the game with a 10-7 win.
Although Rojales were disappointed to have lost it was a great team performance and a enthralling game for the spectators to watch.
Members of Rojales’ Council were on hand to present the winning trophy and best player award which went to Rojales’ GA, Carly.
Rojales Netball Club would like to thank Pam, Heather and Luke for their help during the day, and of course Rojales Ayuntamiento for their continued support.
If you want to be part of this successful netball club come along on a Tuesday to the Norwegian School in Quesada from 7pm-8.30pm or contact Tracey on 679539995 for further details.
