Félix Arenas was elected to the chair

Residents of Orihuela Costa got together last Friday to formalised the establishment of the Federation of Orihuela Costa. Local businessman Félix Arenas was elected to the chair.

Snr Arenas said that the Association had been formed in order to "better promote the interests of the Orihuela Costa to the Orihuela Government.” He said that the services currently being provided to coastal residents had sharply deteriorated to the extent that many were now, at the very best, only minimal and most certainly certainly inadequate.

The Federation of the Orihuela Costa will be completely non political but it will vigorously defend the interests of the coast insisting that its residents are provided with a fair and proportional allocation of the budget.

It will seek to improve services, parks, cleaning, repair and maintenance of streets and the provision of sports and cultural activities. These will be the primary objectives of the Federation.

The coast currently accounts for 60% of the municipal budgets, but receives in return a meager 6.5%, creating a disproportional and unjust situation. Therefore, one of the first things that the City Council will be asked by the Federation is exactly what it is going to do to better manage the Orihuela Costa
