The Municipal Sports Hostel located in the Pilar de la Horadada Deportivo now has accommodation and facilities for up to 50 athletes. It will be used for sports clubs and associations that visit and compete the town on a regular basis.
Construction of the facility, which has an infrastructure of 403 square meters, first got underway in 2010. Although it was put on hold from time to time the council were recently able to provide the balance of funding and material enabling its recent completion.
The mayor, José Fidel Ros, said that the hostel is now ready to welcome 48 athletes, while also providing space for coaches and trainers and a relaxing lounge, all surrounding a central circular open courtyard that provides natural light throughout the building.
He said that the centre is a great step forward for the development of sport in the town which now has some of the finest facilities in the region. The Municipal Deportivo has become a benchmark in the community. Its facilities, tennis and padel courts and its pitches, are second to none and as a better standard athlete is attracted to the town so will the quality of our future local stars begin to improve.
Alejandro Martinez, a resident of Pilar de la Horadada, was the architect responsible for the building and he was on hand last Wednesday morning to accept the congratulations of the Mayor, the Councilor for Sport as well as many members of the sports community.
The Sports Councillor, Adrián López, said that the center will be used for the first time on 28 February with la KDD del Torres, and it is also expected to be used during the Half Marathon on 26 April.
