ROJALES WINDMILL BEING REPAIRED

Rojales council has set aside a budget of 4,000 euro for repairs to the historic windmill in the town.

The windmill was built in the eighteenth century and is covers three floors, the ground, first and second level, and has suffered damage recently caused mostly by the weather.

Now, the company Carpintería Navarro Butrón will commence the repairs over three stages, the first being the repair to the four blades of the windmill, replacing wood that is too badly damaged to save and repairing some of the historic elements, both of which will then be treated to prevent further damage.

Although the mechanical elements of the installation are thought to be complete, the possibility of the windmill functioning has been ruled out, but it is hoped that the repair will mean that this historic hilltop landmark will be renewed enough to maintain its position as a beacon of the historic past of the area.
