Pedreno with Man City manager Pelligrini

CD TORREVIEJA 6 CD ACERO 1Following a disastrous run of 7 games without a win, during the last few days, Torry have finally decided that enough is enough, and parted company with manager Galiana.

It had all looked so bright at Muro in mid January when Torry stormed to a superb victory, pushing them up to the dizzy heights of 2nd place in div 3, but 5 straight defeats, then 2 draws, meant the writing was on the wall for the highly animated Galiana.

Taking his place is former Horadada boss Antonio Pedreno, who has been on the Torry radar for the best part of 10 years, having managed his former charges at both Segunda B and Tercera levels.
Pedreno is best respected as perhaps the most loyal manager in the whole region having first joined ‘The Reds’ in the mid 1990’s.

For the majority of his time in charge he has carried out the role without any payment whatsoever, and now, having recently taken early retirement from his job as the manager of a Horadada High Street bank, it is felt that with rather more time on his hands the challenge of steering CD Torrevieja to their former glories was too big an opportunity to forgo.

Pedreno will link up at Torry with a number of his former charges, including favourites Carrasco and Corcoles, both of which he is expected to develop as part of his backroom team. However, all that is in the future with the first task being was to take maximum points off Acero, who sit mid table along with Torry, therefore reducing the 7 points gap between themselves and the last play off slot.

And the players set about their task in no uncertain terms. Gone was the fear factor we had seen with Galiani. The players looked comfortable on the ball and if the move needed to be taken back toward goal, that’s where it went. There seemed a new found joy in the Torry play.

There was certainly a new found joy up front with 3 strikers taking the game to Acero and the home side were rewarded on 19 mins. Alexis played through Cesar who slid the ball to the side of the advancing keeper.

Torry doubled their lead just 10 mins later through a Carrasco header and when they went 3-0 in front just prior to the interval, Brani hammering home a Cristian cross, we were all thinking the 10 year wait for Pedreno was well worth while.

And there was no let up by the home side in the 2nd period, a further 3 goals scored, although disappointingly one also conceded, and all of course without the club’s 2 main strikers, Obele and Rafa Gomez, who were both absent through injury.

Jorge, Adrian and Cesar with his second were Torrys 2nd half scorers in the 55th, 71st and 90th minutes and although Acero got on the scoresheet with a late scrambled effort from Eixea I think everyone concerned will be delighted with the Torry performance.

It was free, it was flowing and it was entertaining and let’s all hope it was a sign of things to come.
Next week a trip up the AP7 to Requena where Pedreno will be hoping for nothing less than his 2nde consecutive win against one of the divisions whipping boys.
