Saturday saw the “Saga Pearl II” arrive in Alicante, carrying 446 passengers and 252 crew.

Figures for the Easter period already showed positive signs for a summer which will benefit the tourism industry; now the holiday weekend of May has echoed those results.

The weekend coincided with the Labour Day holiday on Friday, Madrid day on Saturday, Mother´s Day on Sunday, UK Bank Holiday on Monday, and the start of Torrevieja´s May Fair later this week.

The DGT had anticipated a busy weekend on the roads, expecting 4.7 million trips on the roads, a 4% increase over last year, with most of the movements being concentrated around the coastal areas.

Queues were recorded in the exit routes from major cities from Thursday afternoon and into Friday.
A total of 885 flight operations were scheduled during the holiday weekend at Alicante-Elche airport, with 236 scheduled flights alone on Saturday.

According to AENA, 150,000 travellers have passed through the airport during the holiday weekend.

On Friday, two cruise ships docked at Alicante, “Horizon” and “Thomson Dream”. The 208 metre “Horizon” docked with 1,828 passengers and 618 crew on board, and the 243 metre “Thomson Dream” carried 1,500 passengers and 615 crew.

Although on a smaller scale, Saturday saw the “Saga Pearl II” arrive in Alicante, carrying 446 passengers and 252 crew.
