Fatality on the N332 in Torrevieja

Two young people were hit by a vehicle on the N-332 main road on Saturday morning, one of them being killed at the scene, the other seriously injured.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 on Saturday in the area close to the desalination plant in Torrevieja.

The two victims were walking along the hard shoulder when they were struck by a vehicle. The impact was so strong that one of the victims was thrown against the crash barrier and suffered a head injury resulting in death. The other suffered serious leg injuries and fractured ribs and was admitted to hospital.

The vehicle involved in the incident failed to stop at the scene and so the Guardia Civil launched an immediate search to try to locate the vehicle and driver.

Here is a longer version video showing the renovations to the Jose Carreras road, located between Jardin del Mar and La Hoya, as part of the Lagoons Village development. Most of this footage was recorded on 31 August 2024, the day the road closure notice was set to expire (following the unannounced extension). The previous 2 minute preview is tagged on the end. In this extended drone video, you can now clearly see how the residents of Jardin Del Mar will no longer be able to access or egress the urbanisation as before, only being able to turn right, then having to double back at a roundabout, and unable to turn left into the estate from the auditorium direction. You can also see the road laid out in preparation for parking outside the commercial centres, including the new DIY store, near the Hiberber end. You can also play a game and ask yourself “why on earth is that like that” over some elements, like the seemingly unnecessary double roundabout at the commercial centre plot, and why traffic will be directed onto the road for a very short run, a road which ,as anyone who uses it regularly will testify, gets so buy at times it will be near impossible to exit by that route. There are also other features you might spot, but we will not spoil it for you, you can just sit back and marvel at the development. You could also wonder where the houses are, or perhaps that´s just us. Anyway, as roads go, it looks nice, just not as practical as we might think, but what do we know? We are not road designers or urban developers, so they must know better, and we accept that.
Detailed Drone Flight over Jose Carreras Road in Torrevieja
Good morning road fans, or good afternoon to the late comers, today, we thought we would take you on a journey along the new Calle Jose Carreras #road in #,Torrevijea which has been closed for months and *might* open soon. Situated between the Jardin del Mar and new Lagoons Village development, sometimes previously called the "wibbly wobbly" road, the "wibbly wobbly" bit has been taken away. Sadly, as you will notice from the video, so has most of the access and egress to Jardin Del Mar permanently. Basically, from Jardin Del Mar you will only be able to turn RIGHT. So you will have to drive to one of the roundabouts and double back if you want to go to the CV-905. Similarly, coming from the auditorium, you will not be allowed to turn left into Jardin Del Mar, and so will have to go to the roundabout and double back. Obviously, somebody, somewhere thought this was a good idea to keep more vehicles on the roads for longer. Similarly, the bus route will have to be adapted.
The Jose Carreras Road Revealed!
We have taken flight over the La Hoya area of Torrevieja again, to check on the progress of the new Lagoons Village development. As you can see from the footage, the progress is not fast, but then they have said it will take 25 years to complete. The roads are taking shape though, and there is deeper digging in the water drainage, presumably after the rains recently filled the channels again, even before the properties have been built.
