Officers from the Guardia Civil have charged two Moroccan nationals who they stopped in the Toledo town of Talavera de la Reina, one with road safety offences, the other with charges of bribery after he tried to convince the officers to let them go in exchange for cash.

The officers stopped the vehicle on suspicion of it being overloaded, with the rear axle collapsing. Upon stopping the vehicle they found it to be 1,225 kilos in excess of the maximum permitted weight allowed to be carried on the vehicle.

A routine check then revealed that the driver had lost his license and had not completed a mandatory education course and was subsequently banned.

The passenger in the vehicle, who was found to be carrying 2,515 euro in cash, attempted to bribe the officers to turn a blind eye and let them continue.

The officers denied the offer and promptly arrested both parties.
