
Tragedy struck in Murcia this weekend when two cars and two trucks collided on the A-7 motorway in the Monteagudo area near to Cabezo de Torres on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 14:30 on Saturday afternoon. One of the articulated trucks crashed through the central reservation into the path of oncoming traffic. One of the trucks also burst into flames as a result of the incident.
An investigation is being carried out to ascertain what happened but initial reports suggest that the two trucks collided resulting in the fuel tanks of one of them catching fire. The two cars then collided with the trucks.
Emergency services were quick to attend the scene with a number of victims remaining trapped in the vehicles. The end result was that three people have been killed and four others injured in the tragedy.
The road was closed for most of the day with lane restrictions continuing through Sunday.
