A serious collision occurred on Tuesday evening when an overtaking maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with a patrol car of the Guardia Civil.
The incident occurred at around 20:30 on the road between Santa Pola and Elche, just in front of the Elche Safari Park.
One of the officers was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by fire fighters. Both officers suffered serious injuries, the driver now in a critical condition fighting for his life.
The occupant of the other vehicle has injuries but is otherwise okay.
