Torrevieja Budget Looks Set to be Approved

Torrevieja’s coalition council seems almost certain to get the 2017 budget passed, just days after the two Ciudadanos councillors, Pilar Gómez Magán and Paqui Parra changed their minds on voting it down. The current government team would now get 14 votes, as opposed to the Partido Popular opposition only able to muster 11 votes.

Last week, Gómez Magán did not go into specifics as to why her party had pulled out of talks with the government team over supporting the budget, but she said that there was a “lack of confidence” in the governing coalition. She made a surprise appearance with Torrevieja mayor, José Manuel Dolon on Tuesday to sign a declaration of support, with the sole condition of the deal apparently being that the coalition council support 50 percent of proposals from Ciudadanos.

The two Sueña Torrevieja councillors, who quit the coalition in the autumn, had already declared that they would support the budget.
