Torrevieja´s Municipal Commission of School Absenteeism, chaired by the mayor, José Manuel Dolón, held a meeting this week in which final approval was given for an innovative project which aims to reduce school truancy.
The councillor for education, José Hurtado, explained that October 30 is the date when the project will begin, and will, hopefully, reduce absenteeism rates.
The councillor explained that, “it has been possible to urgently propose the approval of an innovative educational project, determined by schools, which manages to motivate absentee students.”
The Mayor, José Manuel Dolón, has been pushing for the go ahead for the scheme, which also includes a monthly review to monitor the effectiveness, and offer suggestions for improvements.
Hurtado pointed out that, “the fundamental objective is to diagnose, as best as possible, the causes of absenteeism in order to propose solutions”.
The first phase of the project has already begun, which looks at those children of school age who have not enrolled in education, the age for compulsory education being from 6 to 16.
