Diana Morant, Secretary General of the PSPV-PSOE and Minister of Science and Universities, will officially open the new political season with a series of events in Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura this September, in what party officials are calling a clear commitment to the Vega Baja region.
The PSPV-PSOE membership will gather on 19 and 20 September for activities in both towns. Alongside Morant, former health minister Leire Pajín and provincial secretary Rubén Alfaro will join local representatives to analyse the current political landscape in the Valencian Community and set out the party’s priorities for the coming months.
On 20 September, Torrevieja will host a debate focused on climate emergency and public services. The date has been deliberately chosen as it coincides with the anniversary of the devastating DANA storm of 2019, when the Vega Baja was heavily impacted. Socialists note that their response at the time demonstrated how effective action could preserve public safety during catastrophic events.
The local socialist group has expressed gratitude for the recognition of southern municipalities in the regional political agenda. Party spokesperson Bárbara Soler commented:
“What Ximo Puig began is now being successfully continued by Diana Morant.”
Soler added that she hopes this renewed focus on the Vega Baja will result in further projects that directly benefit both the comarca and Torrevieja.
She also contrasted Morant’s commitment with remarks recently made by Torrevieja’s mayor, Eduardo Dolón, who in a media interview claimed that “Diana Morant doesn’t know where Torrevieja is.” Soler strongly rejected that view:
“Diana Morant knows perfectly well where our city is—she chose Torrevieja to close her last election campaign, and she continues to highlight its value. She can walk proudly through our municipality, unlike Carlos Mazón, who whenever invited by the mayor, leaves without notice and with his tail between his legs.”
