A total of 19 migrants have been rescued overnight after being found aboard a precarious boat 44 nautical miles off the coast of Alicante, maritime authorities have confirmed.
The emergency operation was launched after the Valencia Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre mobilised the rescue vessel Salvamar Fénix to assist those on board. The group consisted of 18 men and one woman, all of Maghrebi origin.
Following the successful rescue at sea, Maritime Rescue transferred the individuals back to land. The group arrived safely at the port of Alicante just after 03:30 hours this morning, Thursday 21st May.
