A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday night in the Alicante municipality of Orihuela after allegedly shooting a 49-year-old woman and beating a 20-year-old man with a stick, both of whom are relatives of his ex-partner. National Police sources confirmed that the woman sustained minor injuries, while the second victim suffered injuries to his arm.
On the very same day of the attack, the suspect had been reported by his current girlfriend for abuse in the Valencian town of Quart de Poblet, and officers were already planning to arrest him for that case. The precise motives behind the attack in Orihuela remain unknown, as does whether the domestic abuse report was connected to the assault on his ex-partner’s family.
The incident took place at around 9:50 pm in the San Isidro neighbourhood, where the suspect carried out the assault against both victims. He fled the scene as several National Police and local police patrols arrived in the area.
After gathering information to establish his identity, officers set up a security operation to monitor the entrances and exits of the municipality, which successfully led to the arrest of the suspect in Orihuela.
The detained man is facing charges of attempted homicide and threats. Furthermore, police sources confirmed he has an active domestic violence warrant issued that same day in Quart de Poblet following the report filed by his current partner.
