A 68-year-old man has been arrested by the Local Police in Elche after being accused of inappropriately touching minors at the Toscar municipal swimming pools.
According to a municipal statement released yesterday, Thursday 16th July, officers intervened at the facility on 7th July at around 5.33 pm. The police were called to the scene after an access control employee requested assistance regarding the alleged touching of a minor by an adult.
Upon arrival, officers were met by staff at the venue, who pointed out the man suspected of being involved. Whilst officers were identifying him, several mothers and children approached them to report that the same man had allegedly touched different young girls inappropriately whilst they were in the swimming pool.
Officers gathered details from the mothers, minors, and witnesses present, who all pointed out the same man. Some pool users also noted that the man’s behaviour had seemed strange on previous days, particularly due to the way he approached minors within the complex.
Based on the testimonies and information gathered, officers arrested the man on suspicion of committing an offence against sexual freedom. He was informed of his rights and subsequently transferred for the relevant legal proceedings to be carried out.
The Local Police of Elche have stressed the importance of immediately reporting any inappropriate behaviour towards minors in public spaces, parks, swimming pools, or sports facilities. They highlighted that the swift reaction of family members, witnesses, and facility staff is essential to protecting children and facilitating police intervention.
