A man from El Palmar in Murcia has been arrested by the National Police for allegedly allowing his 12-year-old son to drive a car while filming him and encouraging him to increase his speed.
Officers launched an investigation after receiving a complaint accompanied by a video showing a minor behind the wheel on a public road carrying other traffic. Police enquiries confirmed that the man sitting in the passenger seat and urging the child to drive faster was the boy’s father.
Because the 12-year-old child is below the age of criminal responsibility, officers arrested the father as a necessary collaborator in an alleged crime against road safety. In Spain, driving a motor vehicle on public roads requires an individual to be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence.
The National Police warned that permitting minors to drive carries serious legal ramifications beyond administrative fines, as adults become necessary collaborators in a criminal offence. Authorities also highlighted the severe risks posed to passengers, other road users, and pedestrians, urging adults to act responsibly and consider the dangerous consequences before engaging in such reckless behaviour.
