The Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, alongside the Councillor for Urban Solid Waste and Street Cleaning, Rocio Ortuño, presented three new 3,500-kilogram capacity trucks yesterday, Wednesday 12th August. The vehicles have been added to the municipal fleet for the Urban Solid Waste department as part of an ongoing modernisation plan.
These new vehicles form part of Lot 2 of the contract to renew service machinery and transport, which encompasses collector trucks, open-box vehicles, street sweepers, and other specialised equipment. The latest additions comprise two tipper trucks fitted with a rear column platform and a third tipper equipped with a grab crane. The specific models delivered are two 150 horsepower Renault Master L2 3500 units with tippers and platforms and one 150 horsepower Renault Master L3 3500 unit with a tipper and a HIAB grab crane.
These three vehicles join six similar trucks that were integrated into service several months ago, bringing the total to nine units delivered under the fleet renewal programme so far.
Rocío Ortuño highlighted that the council is continuing to fulfil its commitment to renew service equipment with better-equipped vehicles, replacing older machinery to support municipal staff daily. She noted that these deliveries are part of an investment exceeding six million euro aimed at updating waste collection and street cleaning resources across the vast municipality.
The specific contract lot was awarded to Fruehauf Recambios S.L. for 193,540.71 euro including VAT, down from an initial tender budget of 206,668 euro. The agreement includes a five-year warranty and GPS tracking systems for all three vehicles. Technical specifications feature Euro VI 150 horsepower diesel engines, ABS, stability control, emergency brake assist, air conditioning, and dual airbags. The crane-equipped truck also features three hydraulic extensions and extensible stabilisers.
Mayor Pepe Vegara added that the multi-million euro investment is producing tangible machinery on the streets to modernise an essential municipal service.
